Deputy Head & Technology Director

PhD in Architecture, University of Cambridge

His Story

Xu Tang is a PhD candidate in Architecture at the University of Cambridge, with research interests in computational design, optimisation, and the application of artificial intelligence to urban environment, public health, and climate resilience. He holds a Master of Architecture from RMIT University and previously worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Hong Kong, where he contributed to both interdisciplinary research and the teaching of software-based courses for master’s students.

Trained as an architect, Xu has received several design awards, and his works have been featured in architectural publications and exhibitions. His design background complements his research approach, which bridges creativity, technical rigour, and data-driven methodologies. Beyond teaching, he has hands-on experience in software and web development, particularly in building digital platforms that support urban analytics and environmental modelling.

Xu's academic and professional journey spans China, Australia, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom, shaping his global and cross-disciplinary perspective. He is deeply committed to addressing inequality—whether in the context of urban public health or in the creation of more inclusive and empowering educational environments. His work is guided by the belief that architecture, technology, and data, when ethically and critically applied, can serve as transformative tools for advancing equity and systemic change.
